Toronto Dominion Bank
Project Commodore, located on a 40-acre site in Barrie, Ontario, is a Tier III plus data centre for TD Bank Financial Group where the design accommodates future expansion.
The data centre includes a 50,000 ft2 raised floor, and associated mechanical and electrical support spaces will accommodate a second raised floor in the future. The new data centre includes a state-of-the-art control centre with customized work stations and a fully serviced audio-visual system connected to other sites. The control centre has direct access to support spaces such as the kitchenette, lounge and washrooms. Structural steel framing with a steel deck roof was used for the super structure which added additional safety for snow loading post-disaster, while reinforced concrete was used for the foundations.
Challenge: Ensure the facility was designed to meet LEED® Platinum certification and to achieve above average energy-efficiency goals.
Solution: The data centre was designed with many green features, including a large storm water retention tank to utilize rain water for condenser water make-up, a roof-mounted solar photovoltaic farm, which will provide net zero energy (electrical) use for the office component of the facility, and targeted a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.1.
