Upon completion, Steps Bridgeland will be a luxury six-storey residential development consisting of a mix of town homes, studios and flats. Separate building structures will sit atop one and a half levels of underground parking.
A concrete-framed project, Steps Bridgeland features no interior corridors or vertical circulation shafts within the residential floor plates. All shafts are located in the exterior courtyard, and the corridors are cantilevered walkways located exterior to the building envelope. The lateral load resisting system combines shear walls located at unit party walls with moment frames that resist lateral load perpendicular to party walls.
Challenge: The design intent of this project calls for the appearance of randomly stacked units.
Solution: We carefully coordinated structural design so that this look could be achieved while minimizing requirements for structural transfers between floor levels. Our solution: only one level of transfer beams separates the lower-level two-storey townhomes and the condominium units on the upper three levels.
