Royal Bank of Canada
Structural Engineering Consultant
Located on a 50-acre site next to a protected environmental area in Stratford, Ontario, the Royal Bank of Canada Data Centre (SCC) consists of a new Tier III plus data centre facility for the national bank.
The facility includes a 100,000 ft2 raised floor divided into modules, and associated mechanical and electrical support spaces were designed to allow the facility to expand to include a second raised floor of 80,000 ft2. Designed to meet LEED® Gold accreditation, structural design included consideration for post-disaster and F2 tornado scenarios.
Challenge: Design the facility to maximize efficiency for construction and power consumption.
Solution: The facility was designed with a highly efficient floor plan that provided the most direct and efficient routing for mechanical piping and electrical conduits. This not only helped with the construction process but also resulted in a very efficient means of providing cooling and power to the server cabinets.
